“Photographs open doors into the past, but they also allow a look into the future” - these words from American photographer Sally Mann aptly seem to describe to me the magic of wedding photography. Being able to capture a moment, an instant that's fleeting, into a frame, is one of the main reasons why I do what I do. Every couple has their own story, and every venue has its own charm - and what’s better than to weave these two elements into a mosaic of moments and memories through photographs. And thus, my passion for my craft and the urge to document people’s lives through my images drew me to yet another gorgeous wedding in a winsome setting in Cazenovia, NY. The venue was breathtaking, and Reese and Dan, the couple to be married, made the most of their special day.
Reese & Dan’s Story
Call it fate, the universe, or sheer coincidence - whatever it was, it worked for Reese and Dan. The couple met in 2016 at their first jobs, post-college, in Pittsburgh, PA. And it didn’t take them long to figure out that they might not fall in love with the job - but they ended up falling in love with each other. Talk about a real-life romcom!
And the proposal was equally romantic! As Reese began narrating it for me, she gushed, “I went to a happy hour with my co-workers, which, of course, was planned by Dan, before the premise of going to dinner. Dan told me and my friends to walk around the lake from the happy hour to meet him at the restaurant for drinks before dinner. And halfway through the walk, I saw Dan was waiting on a pier with flowers and champagne - with the sun setting across the city line in the background.” Now, that’s one super romantic proposal story that warmed my heart. Good going, Dan!
Taking it over from his ladylove, Dan continued, “I had an entire speech planned, but as soon as I got on one knee, all I could utter was the only words that mattered the most - ‘Will You Marry Me?’” Reese chuckled, “It was the easiest ‘Yes!’ I ever said.”
Reese & Dan’s Owera Vineyards Wedding
Spread over an area of 57 acres, Owera Vineyards is a tranquil winery in Cazenovia, NY. Dotted with lush greenery and scenic vistas, the venue was picture-perfect and a befitting setting for Reese and Dan’s wedding. From detail photos and getting ready moments to the ceremony and reception scenes, documenting their wedding day was such a blissful and fun experience. Wine-themed tables, barrel-shaped bouquet stands, and the beautiful outdoor setting - every detail was curated with the vineyard theme in mind. Reese looked like a dream in her bridal dress that had a stunning train trailing after her, adding so much elegance to the scene. And when my lovely bride did a little twirl, I was ready with my camera to capture the bride and her gown in all their glory. The bridal veil made for some interesting frames too.
The couple, the guests, the bridesmaids, and groomsmen - everybody was in the moment and happy in each other’s company. One priceless scene for me was the mirror reflection of the bride and her mother stealing glances in absolute awe. Getting to capture the bride with her bridesmaids and the groom with his boys was another adorable part of the day. But the ring bearer pulling the baby flower girl down the aisle in a wagon literally stole the show, not just for me, but everybody!
After capturing such warm moments, post the ceremony, it was time to take the fun factor up a notch. The sunset over the vineyard was surreal that day! And so I gathered the couple along with the bridesmaids and the groomsmen and asked them to go with the flow and pose quirky. Turns out, they are quite the POSERS! From lifting up the bride and the groom to making amusing facial expressions, the group had some fun ideas up their sleeves and plenty of open, green fields to get goofy. And that sure was just the beginning of an eventful evening. The couple had shot glasses lined up to take a shot when guests entered the reception area. Talk about prepping for a party! That surely brought the fun out in everybody.
Celebrate Your Wedding With Kayla Bri Photography
Reese and Dan, you two are an amazing couple, and I absolutely enjoyed your company. What a fun time I had photographing your special day! And I have to give credit to your impeccable planning - from the venue to the reception party, everything was on point! I can’t thank you enough for letting me be a part of your wedding day and also Camille (a previous bride I had photographed) for referring me to Reese. It was such a bliss photographing you guys, your guests, and, definitely, your bridesmaids and groomsmen. So much so that I extended my time and stayed at the venue for the weekend with my second shooter and even did some wine tasting. And signed off on a high note!
